Hyun Bahc raises questions about what is easily forgotten or denied by exploring beings situated at the boundary between the virtual and the real. Her work presents hybrid entities, such as machines integrated with human bodies or figures speaking through nonexistent faces. These beings are created from her reflections on social structures and a critical examination of humanity's role within them. The concept of the face is an important axe for her work. By erasing or distorting it, she questions the notion of "faciality," reinterpreting the face as a map, a code, or even a myth. Through these investigations, she deconstructs familiar ideas and offers viewers new perspectives.
BAHC Hyun's practice extends beyond the mere application of digital technologies, focusing instead on creating new modes of engagement with the audience. While her earlier installations and performances positioned the audience as a witness, her recent works in VR and 3D transform the audience into active participants or protagonists, capable of interacting directly with the artwork. Her artistic exploration is rooted in a reflection on the body as a sensory and agentive subject and the face as an embodiment of otherness. Continuously experimenting with new forms and media, she pushes the boundaries of artistic expression, redefining the relationship between art and its audience.
